This training provides a comprehensive introduction to National Park Service (NPS) Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, including key terminology, policy, and practices for SAR team operations. The target audience for the content is NPS employees, NPS Volunteers-in-Parks, and NPS Partner Organizations that assist in carrying out SAR operations, or anyone interested in learning more about NPS Emergency Services and SAR.
NPS Introduction to SAR Operations is the prerequisite for an on-site, skills-based training held at the learner’s home park/unit (known as "SAR Days"). By completing this training, you will fulfill one requirement to being certified as a SAR Technician Type 2 on the NPS All Hazard card; SAR Tech Type 2 certification qualifies people to actively participate in NPS SAR operations.
NOTE: Only the public (non-employees who do not have (or will not have) PIV access) can complete this training on eDOIU; any employee with PIV access must complete the course on DOITalent, the DOI learning management system of record.
